Being and doing

There are two modes of human operation. One is doing and the other is being. Doing is work, achievements, recognition, creating value and improving yourself. Being is loving, enjoying and appreciating life, without any improvements needed. You need a healthy balance of both if you want to be truly content.

The case for attaining balance between being and doing in modern society has reached a tipping point.  We live in a culture where doing rules over being, and the attainment of goals and material goods is most important. Being busy is so highly valued that people brag about how little sleep they get because they are so busy doing things.  Yet we must also guard against the apathy associated with only being and not doing.  It's a dichotomy so we at The Human Experience aim to explore the tools, techniques and mental models that can help us balance the ying and yang of these two states of existing.
